The People We Meet Along the Way
Some of the best travel memories don't begin with a place. They begin with a person.
For us, one of those stories started in Spain, when we met Tess and Devin.
At first, we were simply four people talking in a parking lot. We didn't know that this random meeting would turn into months of shared adventures, countless meals, long conversations and memories that would stay with us long after we eventually had to go our separate ways.
From Spain to Morocco
We met in Spain while travelling in our vans, and both wanted to head to Morocco, so we decided to meet up there.
What started as a simple travel friendship slowly became something much more. Instead of just meeting occasionally along the way, we ended up travelling together for almost three months.
We shared campsites, meals, spontaneous plans and the everyday little moments that make vanlife what it is. We woke up in different places, explored new corners of the country and constantly found ourselves saying, "Why not?"
Somewhere along the way, Tess and Devin stopped feeling like people we had met while travelling. It felt almost like they are our "flatmates".
Learning the Moroccan way
One of my favourite memories is our time around Ouzoud.
We spent time together there, exploring the area and getting to know a little more about Moroccan food and culture. We even learned how to make our own tajine and Moroccan tea from Jalal and Momo.
Those are the moments I remember most. Friends, gathered together, learning how to prepare food we had probably never imagined making ourselves before. We laughed, experimented, tasted, made mistakes and enjoyed the fact that none of us really needed to know what we were doing.
Not necessarily the perfect photographs or the places we had planned to see, but the feeling of being there together, and the people we met together.
Desert days and coastal nights
Our journey continued through Morocco, taking us from the desert to the coast.
We shared the excitement of discovering completely different landscapes, from endless sandy horizons to the Atlantic coastline. We watched sunsets, spent time outside our vans, cooked together and simply enjoyed having no real need to rush anywhere.
There were days filled with adventure and days where the biggest plan was simply to sit together and enjoy where we had ended up. That's one of the beautiful things about travelling with people you connect with: even ordinary moments start to feel like part of the adventure.
A meal becomes a memory. A campsite becomes a story. A random afternoon becomes something you still talk about months later.
Of course, eventually our paths had to separate. That is one of the hardest parts of travel friendships. When we said goodbye, it was strange to think that after spending so much time together, we would suddenly be travelling different roads again.
But the goodbye wasn't really the end of the story. A few months later, we met again – this time in Germany for some festivals.
It's funny how life works. We met in Spain, we travelled through Morocco together for months. We said goodbye, not knowing exactly when we would see each other again. And then our paths cross again.
